Swimmer Development:
The East Region hosts an annual Open Water Development Day for swimmers aged 12 – 14 years.
Athletes will be selected and invited to attend the Development Day as per the selection policy. The athlete does not need to have experience of Open Water swimming for them to attend but experience of swimming long distance would be preferred.
Once invited athletes have accepted or decline the place then it will be opened up to other athletes.
On the day the athletes will be swimming a minimum distance of 2km.
If any parent has their Team Manager 1 and would be available to help on the day please complete the Coach & Team Manager form on the right hand side of this page.

Regional Distance Development Programme 2026

Coach development:
Coaches interested in developing their knowledge in the discipline can attend the regional Open Water Development Day on the 7th June as an observer. Simply let us know you are planning on attending by completing the form to the right.

Officials Development
Swim England Open Water Technical Officials Course. These will be delivered as interactive video presentations via Zoom.
You only need to attend one session to complete this stage of your training.
- Sunday 19 April 2026: 09:00 – 12:00
- Thursday 14 May 2026: 09:00 – 12:00
- Thursday 14 May 2026: 18:00 – 21:00
- Saturday 30 May 2026: 09:00 – 12:00
Note: If you are flexible with your schedule, please let Paul Kendall know, as the aim is to have at least six participants per session where possible. Additional sessions may be added upon request.
Requirements:
- Membership: You must be a current member of Swim England, Swim Wales, or Swim Scotland.
- Practical Training: To become fully qualified, you will also need to complete practical training at suitable Open Water events (typically regional championships).
- Fees: There is a fee for the final license qualification, payable upon completion of both the theory and practical elements.
